Ingredients
2 ¼ cups All-purpose flour
1 cup Granulated sugar
1 cup Unsalted butter
4 Large eggs
2 cups Whole milk
2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
½ teaspoon Salt
Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan. Mix 2 cups of all-purpose flour, ¼ cup of granulated sugar, and ¼ teaspoon of salt in a large bowl. Cut in the cubed butter until crumbly. Press into the pan and bake for 15-18 minutes until golde
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the remaining ¼ cup of flour, ¾ cup of sugar, and ¼ teaspoon of salt. Gradually add the milk and cook over medium heat, stirring until thickened. Remove from heat and temper in the eggs. Return to heat and stir until thickened. Add vanilla
- Pour the custard over the baked crust and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes until set. Cool at room temperature, then refrigerate for 3-4 hours or overnight
- Dust with powdered sugar before serving, cut into squares
Notes
Ensure not to overbake the crust; it should remain moist.
Tempering the eggs is crucial for a smooth custard.
Allow ample chilling time for the best texture.
